In a first for the state, Odisha has exported a commercial consignment of dried whole egg powder to Austria, marking a significant step in India’s efforts to expand exports of value-added agricultural and processed food products.
The shipment was facilitated by the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), operating under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
According to the ministry, the consignment was exported by OVO Farm Pvt Ltd, an APEDA-registered exporter based in Balangir, Odisha.
The export marks the first commercial shipment of dried whole egg powder from the state and reflects growing international demand for processed poultry products from India.
To support export-oriented production, the company established a modern egg processing facility in Balangir in 2025.
The plant manufactures dried egg products that comply with a range of domestic and international food safety standards, including Export Inspection Council (EIC) requirements, European Union hygiene regulations, and other globally recognised quality norms.
The facility is certified under FSSC 22000 Version 6 and also holds HALAL and KOSHER certifications.
Dried whole egg powder is widely used across food processing, bakery, confectionery, and pharmaceutical industries because of its long shelf life, ease of storage and transportation, and versatility in industrial applications.
The product is manufactured by spray-drying liquid eggs and is subjected to stringent quality control procedures to meet international standards.
The export consignment comprised 22.6 metric tonnes of dried whole egg powder.
The shipment was virtually flagged off by Abhishek Dev.
The event was attended by Prem Chand, Gaurav Shivaji Isalwar, representatives of the exporting company, APEDA officials, and other stakeholders.
APEDA said it supported the exporter through its financial assistance programmes aimed at strengthening food processing infrastructure, improving food safety and quality management systems, and enhancing laboratory testing capabilities.
According to the authority, such initiatives help Indian exporters meet the stringent requirements of international markets and improve global competitiveness.
Austria, along with several other European countries, imports egg powder for use in food manufacturing and industrial applications.
The successful shipment is expected to strengthen India’s presence in the European processed food market and reinforce its reputation as a supplier of high-quality agricultural products.
The export is also expected to encourage further investment in poultry processing, support the growth of Odisha’s agro-processing sector, and create new opportunities for value-added food exports from the state.
