SJVN Limited, a Mini Ratna, Category-I and Schedule – A CPSE commenced its impactful journey on May 24, 1988 as a joint venture of the Government of India and the Government of Himachal Pradesh.

A listed entity, with 55 per cent shareholding by the GOI, 26.85 per cent by the Government of Himachal Pradesh has an impressive net worth of Rs. 13822 crore, SJVN has solidified its presence on a global scale, diversifying its interests from Himachal Pradesh to projects across India and internationally.

SJVN’s remarkable achievements include construction and successful operation of the country’s largest underground 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station. The subsequent successful projects include 412 MW Rampur Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh, 47.6 MW Khirvire Wind Power Project in Maharashtra, 5.6 MW Charanka Solar Power Plant in Gujarat, 50 MW Sadla Wind Power Project in Gujarat, 1.31 MW Grid Connected Solar Power Station (NJHPS) in Himachal Pradesh and 75 MW Parasan Solar Power Project in UP. The current installed capacity of SJVN is 2091.5 MW, besides one Transmission Line of 86 km length.

Currently boasting a project portfolio of 58144 MW, besides Power Generation from various energy sources, the company has notably diversified and forayed into Power Transmission and Power Trading. In Transmission Lines, the ongoing projects include the 217 Km 400 kV D/c Transmission Line from Arun-3 HEP in Nepal to Bathnaha on the Nepal-India border and a 37 km Transmission Line for the 60MW NMHEP in Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh.

SJVN Subsidiary Bags 100 MW Solar Power Project: SJVN subsidiary SJVN Green Energy has received a Letter of Award, at a tariff of Rs 2.62 per unit, for the development of a 100 MW solar power project from Rajasthan Urja Vikas Nigam. The project will be developed on a build, own, and operate basis. The tentative cost of this project is around Rs 600 crore which is expected to generate 252 million units in the 1st year and the cumulative energy generation over a period of 25 years would be about 5,866 million units.

Its Nathpa Jhakri Hydroelectric Station, having 1500 MW capacity, is the country’s largest hydropower plant, located on River Sutlej. Plant is designed to generate 6612 million units of electricity each year but quality management at the plant has enabled generation to exceed yearly targets. Power allocation from plant to Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Jammu & Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and the cities of Delhi and Chandigarh has enabled the grid to overcome power shortages in the region. Another is Rampur Hydro Power Station with 412 MW installed capacity is designed to generate 1878 million units of electricity each year – distributed to Northern Regional states as per their percentage allocation by ministry of Power. Six units of the project have been commissioned progressively.

Its Khirvire Wind Power Project of 47.6 MW capacity is located in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra which comprises of 56 Wind Electric Generators of 850kW capacity each. The PPA for power has been signed with MSEDCL for a period of 13 years. Also Sadla Wind Power Project with an installed capacity of 50 MW is situated in Surendranagar, Gujarat which comprises of 25 Wind Electric Generators. All 25 units are under commercial operation. PPA was signed first for 19 units (38 MW) and later for 06 units (12 MW) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited. SJVN has also commissioned 5.6 MW Solar Plant at Charanka Solar Park, in Gujarat, conceived and developed under REC Mechanism. The PPA for brown power has been signed with GUVNL for a period of 25 years. The green component of power are being traded at power exchange.

SJVN has some important subsidiaries, namely, SJVN Arun -3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd., a fully owned subsidiary incorporated in Nepal for implementation of 900 MW Arun-3 Project and associated transmission system in Nepal. SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd., incorporated for implementation of 669 MW Lower Arun HEP in Nepal. SJVN Thermal Pvt. Ltd., incorporated for execution of 1320 MW Buxar Thermal Power Project in Bihar, and SJVN Green Energy Ltd., incorporated for capacity addition in new and renewable energy sources. It also has a Joint Venture Cross Border Power Transmission Company Ltd. which is a JV of IEDCL, Power Grid, SJVN and NEA with equity participation 38, 26, 26 and 10 per cent respectively to construct and maintain 86 km long, 400 kV D/C transmission line from Sursund on Indo- Nepal border to Muzaffarpur.

Dedicated to Corporate Social Responsibility, SJVN has undertaken many initiatives through the registered trust of the company ‘SJVN Foundation’. It has contributed over Rs. 412 crore towards different causes like education, health, infrastructure, culture, sports, sustainable development, and disaster relief etc.

Major Highlights

Financial Year 2022-23 was the Most Significant year in the History of the Company during which its Project Portfolio took a quantum leap. Project Portfolio of SJVN & its associate Companies now stands at an All-time High with 79 Projects aggregating 55814 MW & 3 Transmission lines totaling 340 Kms spread across 13 States and 2 countries.

  • Contributing towards the attainment of “24 X 7 Power for All” vision of PM Narendra Modi.
  • Surpassing the total Design Energy of 8705 Million Units, its Power Stations generated 9335 Million Units of energy, Third Highest Generation ever achieved by the Company.
  • Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station achieved the highest ever PAF of 106.653%.
  • Nathpa Jhakri and Rampur Hydro Power Stations achieved the highest ever Single Day Generation of 39.526 MU and 10.9082 MU
  • A new all-time high record of 50.534 MU in single-day power generation has been set by its two flagship hydropower stations.
  • Company has clocked the highest ever Income from operations of ₹41 crore during the financial year 2022-23, an increase of ₹513.45 crore over the earnings of previous fiscal year.
  • Total Revenue of the Company has touched a Record High of ₹3298.84 crore, an increase of ₹673.30 crore compared to ₹2625.54 crore earned during the previous year.
  • The standalone PAT increased by ₹385.93 crore to ₹1363.45 crore against ₹977.52 crore for the previous year.

Looking ahead, SJVN aims for unprecedented growth, setting ambitious targets including a Mission of 12000 MW by 2026 and an ultimate goal of achieving the Shared Vision of 25000 MW by 2030 and 50000 MW installed capacity by 2040.

SJVN & M/s Ocean Sun, Norway sign MOU: SJVN has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with M/s Ocean Sun, Norway for collaboration in the field of new technologies in Green & Clean Energy Sector. Under this, SJVN Green Energy shall develop & finance a Pilot Membrane based Floating Solar Project of about 2 MW at a suitable location anywhere in India. The patented technological support for this project shall be provided by M/s Ocean Sun. Once this pilot project is on its success path, the two companies can endeavor to expand this technology on large scale along the vast coast line in the southern part of India. This MOU signing will strengthen the footprints of SJVN in renewable energy sector and will help in achieving Government’s target of 50 percent installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

  • 900 MW Arun-3 HE Project in Nepal: The financial progress is 65 per cent and physical Progress is 65 per cent. The project is expected to be commissioned by June 2024.
  • 60 MW Naitwar Mori Hydro Electric Project in Uttarakhand: Financial Progress is 94 per cent and physical progress is 97 per cent. The project is expected to be commissioned in October 2023.
  • 210 MW Luhri Stage-I Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh: Financial Progress is 67 per cent physical progress is 52 per cent. The project is expected to be commissioned by January 2026.
  • 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh: Financial Progress is 66 per cent and Physical Progress is 60 per cent. The project is expected to be commissioned by November 2025.
  • 382 MW Sunni Dam Hydro Electric Project in Himachal Pradesh: Financial Progress is 20 per cent and physical Progress is 22 per cent. The project is expected to be commissioned by April 2028.
